Patt Sims

Patricia “Patt” Sims, 71, of Shafter, Texas closed her eyes to her earthly home and sored high among the clouds on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 at Big Bend Regional Medical Center with her beloved husband Kenneth by her side.

Patt was born on March 17th, 1948 in Bathesda, Maryland to Bruce Whalen and Georgina (Ross) Whalen.  She was a graduate of Sul Ross State University in which she earned a Bachelor of Science with education endorsement.  She was a biologist, chemist and enjoyed teaching environmental science at Presidio High School, in Presidio, Texas.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at Presidio High School with Joe Greer Denham, III serving as funeral celebrate.

Patt was a wonderful beautiful person with a loving kind heart.  She loved to travel to Costa Rica, Belize, Galapagos Islands and to Peru.  She was an avid photographer especially taking pictures of birds.  She enjoyed listing to any type of music. Patt enjoyed feeding birds as well as enjoying the great outdoors camping and teaching others about the vast desert’s ecosystem.

Patt had a great energy about herself, she was always encouraging her family, friends and students to do better and to challenge themselves so they may succeed in life.

Preceding Patt in death, is her parents Bruce Whalen and Georgina (Ross) Whalen.

Those left to remember and cherish the memory of Patt is her beloved husband Kenneth Sims; her son Joshua Sims; and brother Robert Whalen; three grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.  Her friends Norma Wilkerson and DJ Sanders, as well as all her students that she inspired over the years.
