Mikel Talley

August 10, 1963 — October 12, 2020

Alpine

Mikel was the only son of Duff and Ann Talley, who had been married 15 years before they were blessed with his adoption. he was raised in Alpine. Mikel accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 7 while at Paisano Baptist Encampment. He was so excited after the fact that he talked and talked  well until 1 a.m. when his father told him to hush and get some sleep. He learned to piano at age 6, held frequent recitals in his parent's home, including all seven versions of It's a Small World After All that he learned on a birthday trip to Disney Land. he played the organ for the First Baptist Church from age 12 to 16, and later played for the Methodist Church...for greater pay and fewer services. Mikel loved motors and mechanics and displayed an early talent in both when he requested a run-down lawn mower engine for a birthday present at the age of 6. Once received, he took it apart, put it back together and had it running by the end of the day. He served as a junior fire fighter in Alpine when he was in high school. He attended Alpine Christian Education (A.C.E.) until freshman year, then he graduated from Alpine High School and attended Sul Ross State University. He married Georgie Lines, who also had an appreciation for sports cars, and they had two boys, Mikel and Blake. He enjoyed sneaking his young son Mikel out of the house and taking him on overnight trucking trips. He passed on his love of motors to his son Blake as they worked on the Camaro.

Mikel's primary passions in life were making music and rebuilding motors. He had a fine eye for detail and he was a great craftsman. He also had an intense appreciation for technology and gadgets. He served the First Baptist Church in both aspects as the keyboard player and sound man from 2014-2020.

He married Glore on December 21, 2012 and they had one daughter, Shaeana. The couple separated after seven years. Family time was important to him and his youngest child, Shaeana, was his highest priority in the last years of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Duff Talley. He is survived by his mother Anna M. Talley, his sons William Mikel (wife Nicole) and Blake, and grandchildren Connor Mikel (12), Dane Austin (10), Carson Blake (6), and by his daughter Shaeana (6) and her mother Glore.

Mikel will be remembered for his smile, the twinkle in his eyes, his laugh, his friendship, his music, and his love for Jesus.
