John Marsh

December 5, 1928 — August 25, 2021

Ft. Davis

John Wesley Marsh, 92, of Ft. Davis, Texas passed away on August 25, 2021, at his home in Limpia Crossing.

John was born in Summit, New Jersey to Forrest and Florence Marsh.  Florence was visiting her sister at the time, but the family made its home in Queens Village, New York City.  John attended Jamaica High School, Hofstra University and New York State Agricultural and Technical Institute.  He was a United States Army veteran having served in Germany in the aftermath of World War II.

John was retired from his career in engineering design and construction of quarry and mine ore processing plants.  All his life he enjoyed working in pencil, pen and ink, oils, and block printmaking.  After moving to Utah and then west Texas he developed an interest in landscape photography.

He was a faithful, longstanding member of the United Methodist Church.

John is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Zaida Jean Boomis and Betsey Virginia Marsh as well as his beloved wife of 42 years, Margaret Hamilton Marsh.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Joan Blankenship, daughters Leslie (John) Ragland, Robin (Gary) Schuberth and Christine (Kevin) Burns, grandchildren Brittany (Troy) Schuberth Trabon, Erin Schuberth, Austin Schuberth, Emma (Vincent) Ragland Sacco, Caroline Ragland and Zachary Burns as well as 4 great-grandchildren.  He will also be sorely missed by his 3 constant canine companions Carmen, Nike, and Cessna.

John was a steadfast family man, but also a charming character.  He loved a party and truly enjoyed interacting with friends and strangers alike.  His sense of humor was well-known, and he was never happier than when we were all laughing at his jokes.  He was extremely well-read.  He loved traveling, solving the NY Times crossword puzzle, playing Canasta, and annoying his sisters by arguing politics with them.  He had a deep connection to his many cat and dog friends over the years and loved to spoil the dogs’ appetites with McDonald’s sausage biscuits.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grand Companions (Humane Society in Ft. Davis) or the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
