Gloria Gallego

Alpine, Texas

Gloria “Grandma” Gallego, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 in Odessa, Texas.  She was a lifelong resident of Alpine.  Gloria was the eldest daughter born on December 18, 1930 to Jesus Portillo and Teresa Cobos.  She married Joe Gallego, where they made a home in California and eventually returned to Alpine.

Praying of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas with Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Pablo Matta officiating with internment to follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine, Texas.

Gloria was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother.  Her grandchildren are her pride and joy, going above and beyond for them.  They will all miss her dearly.

Gloria worked hard and made meaningful relationships throughout the years.  She was known as “GRANDMA.”  People would call her grandma around town, and she always responded happy, kind, and loving.

Our mother had a humble spirit and was always taking care of others.  Thank you for all of your prayers and support during this time.

Gloria is survived by daughters, Leticia Portillo (Noel Lopez) from Elmonty, CA, Theresa Ramirez (George Ramirez) from Andrews, TX, Jennifer Lynn Morris (Johnny Ramirez) from Alpine, TX; son James (Jimmy) Matthew Morris (Linda Morris) from Alpine, TX; granddaughters Regan Seville Armendariz (Alexis Armendariz), Bo Madaline Morris, Mia Morris, Naida Morris; grandsons Joseph Anthony Morris, George Jeffrey Ramirez, Jared Daniel Ramirez, Samuel Joseph Dutchover, Jr., James Matthew Morris, Jr., and Seth Noel Dutchover; sisters Bertha Garcia from Monahans, TX, Elma Schodts from Prosper, TX, and Isabel “Chavela” Portillo from El Paso, TX; brothers Jose Portillo (Marcella Portillo) from Monahans, TX, Jesus “Chuy” Portillo, and Armando Portillo (Sylvia Portillo) from Monahans, TX; three great-great-grandchildren.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe Gallego, sister Julia Monclova; brothers Luis Cobos Portillo, and David Portillo.

Honorary pallbearers:  Sophia Dutchover, Christian Armendariz, and Andres Armendariz.

Pallbearers:  George Jeffrey Ramirez, Jared Ramirez, Sam Dutchover, Jr., Seth Noel Dutchover, James Matthew Morris, Jr., Joseph Anthony Morris, Alexis Armendariz, and Johnny Ramirez.
