Earl "Dick" Wallis

Earl Richard “Dick” Wallis passed away on September 27, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. Graveside
services will be at 10:00 a.m. on October 1, 2022 at  Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine, Texas.

Dick was born on September 25, 1931 near Bosler, Wyoming.  He is the son of Lew Elmer Wallis and Esther Anna Drube Wallis. He graduated from Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado and attended Colorado State University for a semester before joining the Navy in 1951. He served during the Korean War.  He rode in the belly of the aircraft and spotted submarine trails on the Atlantic Ocean. In 1954, he returned to Wyoming and attended the University of Wyoming and was on the Rodeo Team. He was a National Intercollegiate Reserve Champion Bull Rider in 1957.

He married Myrtle Ann Greenough on February 9, 1957, in Gillette, Wyoming. They made their first home on a ranch on Bitter Creek, north of Recluse, Wyoming. He was a cowboy, a rancher, and a carpenter. He represented Campbell County in the Wyoming Legislature for 13 years. He competed in single steer roping. He loved sports of all kinds (rodeo, billiards, basketball, golf, racquetball, tennis, and snow skiing). He loved horses and dogs.

He is survived by his son, Lew Wallis and wife Christina of Manassas, Virginia; daughter, Dorisann Shipp and husband, Jeff of Alpine, Texas and his dog Lily; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Myrtle Ann Greenough Wallis; son Frank Wallis; daughter Sue Wallis McQueary; son-in-law Rod McQueary; sisters, Anne Beatty, Mary Perry, Florence Linthicum; parents and grandparents.
