Vickee Lee Wilcox, born on August 21, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Alpine, Texas. Her life was marked by grace, dedication, and a spirit that touched many hearts throughout her journey.
Vickee’s early years were shaped by her education both in Marfa, Texas, where she attended school, and later at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. These formative experiences laid a foundation for a life filled with service, family, and community involvement.
She devoted much of her life to being a loving housewife and nurturing mother, but also embraced meaningful roles beyond the home. In her earlier years, Vickee managed the RV park at Yellowstone National Park, a place where many travelers found warmth and welcome under her care. Later, she extended her spirit of service to the Marfa Museum thrift store, managing it with a dedication that reflected her generous heart and tireless work ethic.
One of Vickee’s most cherished memories was her marriage to Steve Wilcox on November 22, 2000. Their wedding was uniquely unforgettable, held on a freight train where the train authorities graciously halted the journey for an hour to allow their ceremony to unfold—a timeless moment of love paused amid the rails.
Vickee is lovingly remembered by her husband, Steve Wilcox; her son Jonathan Rutledge and daughter-in-law Amanda Rutledge; her grandchildren Ember Elliott, Tannah Rutledge, and Garrison Rutledge; her great-grandchild Eleanore Elliott; as well as Ember’s husband, Aiden Elliott. She also holds a special place in the hearts of her stepdaughter Lichelle Cobb, Lichelle’s husband Joe Cobb, and their children Anthony Griffis and Jayden Cobb. The bonds she shared with her family were woven with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennett and Mary Davis, whose legacy lives on in Vickee’s own warmth and kindness.
A visitation to honor Vickee’s life will be held on May 18, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Iglesia Cristiana Jesus es Rey, located at 700 W. 1st Street, Marfa, Texas. Following this, a memorial service will take place in the same location from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., allowing friends and family to come together in remembrance. An inurnment will then be held at Marfa City Cemetery beginning at 11:15 a.m.
Though her presence has departed from this world, the echoes of Vickee Lee Wilcox’s kindness, dedication, and unique spirit will resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. Her journey on earth may have ended, but the love she fostered and the memories she created will endure forever.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support during this time of loss. They kindly ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Friends of the Marfa Public Library in Marfa, Texas, continuing the legacy of nurturing community and knowledge that Vickee so deeply valued.
