Sandra Anne Billingsley, affectionately known as Sandi, left this world on August 3, 2025, in Fort Davis, Texas. She was born on November 10, 1949, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, she was the second daughter of Charles Thomas Williams, Jr. and Virginia Woodrow Williams, both of whom predeceased her. Sandi had six other siblings.
Sandi graduated in 1967 from Webutuck Central School in Amenia, New York. She worked as a teacher’s aide, a lifeguard for the state of New York, a grocery clerk and attended Dutches College before joining the U.S. Navy in 1970. She attended basic training in Bainbridge, Maryland. Sandi attended technical schools in the Great Lakes area of Illinois where she received training as an electronics technician. Her first duty station was at Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, attached to Automatic Secure Voice Communications Command. This was secure voice communications during the Vietnam Conflict. This is where Sandi and Stewart Billingsley met and were married in May 1972. Their marriage lasted fifty-three years. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Sandi lived and worked in Yuma, Arizona and Del Rio, Texas before moving to Marfa, Texas in 1976 all while following her husband to different duty stations.
While in Marfa, Sandi and Stewart adopted two children, Brad Stewart Billingsley and Erica Rae Billingsley. Sandi loved Marfa during her time living there she attended Sul Ross State University and received Bachelor of Arts in History and English and Master’s Education/Fine Arts degrees, all with the assistance of her GI Bill. As a college program she worked at the Fort Davis National Park as a Park Technician. While in Marfa, Sandi joined the Beta sigma Phi sorority and has continued her membership throughout her life. Baseball was another of Sandi’s passions. She was a member of Judge Brisbin’s Satellite softball team. She was also a member of the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department’s Sparklers Woman Auxiliary. She passed her Ham license (KA5YPW) in 1986. Sandi worked for D’Ette Fowlkes Attorney at Law office, but her main passion was working for the City of Marfa/County EMS as an emergency medical technician/paramedic. She began as an Emergency Care Attendant while volunteering with the city EMS system. Sandi paid for her own training to become an emergency medical technician and then upgraded to Paramedic.
In 1992, Sandi and the family moved to the area just outside San Antonio, Texas in La Vernia. There, Sandi donated her time to the La Vernia EMS ambulance service as an EMT. Her full-time job, along with raising two children, was at Murray Guaranty Title Company as a land title clerk/abstractor. In 1995, the family moved to Tucson, Arizona and while there Sandi worked at Northwest Medical Center as an admitting rep and then as a collection specialist.
In August 2001, Sandi moved to Fort Davis prior to her husband’s retirement to secure their forever home. Sandi immediately began her newest journey into the EMS world, starting over as a basic EMT and years later becoming a licensed paramedic. She worked for Dr. Alan Bird as an office nursing assistant and at Big Bend Title Company while still volunteering with the Mountain Medics of Fort Davis. Sandi was also a member of the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department as well as being a member and holding various positions in the Davis Mountains Volunteer Fire Department.
Sandi worked from high school until almost the time of her passing. As late as December 2024, she retired from her EMS work because of her illness. Her commitment to helping others and to her community exemplifies the principles of compassion and care she had for others.
Sandi's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Stewart Billingsley, and her cherished children, Erica Billingsley Aguilar and Brad Stewart Billingsley. She also adored her grandchildren, Jayden, Maelynn, and Jacob, who brought her immense joy and pride throughout her life.
As family and friends reminisce about Sandi's remarkable journey, they honor her spirit, her aspirations, and the profound impact she had on the lives of those around her. Her memory will forever remain etched in their hearts as they celebrate her life and the indelible mark she left on the world.
