Rose Marie Garr

Rose Garr, 67, of Galveston, TX passed away in Big Bend National Park on Saturday, November 18th, 2023. Rose was born November 2, 1956, to Emma Morrison in Bogalusa, LA. She lived in the Houston and Arlington area of Texas and then southeast Michigan, where she raised her family—though she always remained a Texan at heart. Rose was married to Michael Garr, and between them, was blessed with five children and 11 grandchildren. Rose was the mother of Michelle Graham (Kevin Koontz), John Morse (Gretchen Morse), and Robert Morse (Stephanie Morse), and stepmother to Adam Garr (Michelle Garr) and Melissa Garr. She was the proud grandmother of Devin Graham, Jacey VanTimmeren, Ella Garr, Lila Garr, Lucy Morse, Pearl Morse, Camden Morse, Lottie Morse, Remy Garr, Abel Morse, and Finley Morse.

Rose was a dreamer and entrepreneur in her professional life, owning and operating small businesses like Sit N’ See Rentals and most recently, Pure Skyn Rejuvia. She was passionate about getting to know her customers and building long-term relationships that turned into friendships. Rose also had a variety of hobbies that she loved to share with her family and friends. She was a true southern cook, displaying those talents on numerous Sierra Club service projects. Rose was very skilled at sewing, quilting, and crafting. She was known for creating seashell floral arrangements, pillowcases, dresses, blankets, and more for her friends, children, and grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved gifting homemade keepsakes like ornaments and tree skirts. Rose felt most at home on the beach and looked forward to walking the shoreline in search of seashells. She also discovered the Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary on Bolivar Island and took many stunning photographs of the birds that nest there. 

Rose will be remembered by her family and friends for her big heart and incredible strength. To the end, she was a fighter. Her children and grandchildren will be especially grateful for her devotion and unconditional love. In place of a memorial service, the family requests memorial contributions be made through the Houston Audubon Society to support the Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary, her heaven on this Earth.
