Rondell Sanders

Rondell Gene Sanders 73, of Alpine, Texas passed away June 9, 2018 at his residence.

Ron was a fighter of multiple medical conditions for several years. Always getting them under control until the Rare Brain Infection (Nocardia) finally overcame him.

Mr. Sanders was born in Charlestown, Indiana on July 8, 1944. He was raised in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.

In June of 1963 (55 years ago) Ron came to Big Bend National Park to work at the Chisos Mountain Lodge for National Park Concessions, Inc. (now Forever Resorts). He worked his way up from Housekeeper to General Manager, then on to Special Projects for Forever Resorts. He also worked at Mammoth Cave National Park, KY and Isle Royale National Park, MI with National Park Concessions. He was president of Visit Big Bend-Brewster County Tourism: Always Promoting and Supporting the Big Bend area. He was also a member of the Texas Hotel and Lodging Association, Texas Historical Society, Masonic Lodge 766 and former member of the Board of Texas Mountain Trails, Lions Club and former treasurer at First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Debra (DJ) Sanders of Alpine, children; Amy Maria (Gilbert) Ramos and their children Dillon King, Marshall (Paloma) King, Marco (Marcella) Ramos, and their children Raime, Ariana and Anaya Ramos, TJay Savage and children DeLayne, Ty, and Keleigh Savage, Jayme (Garrett) Rogers and their children Ann Jayden, Phoebe, Nathanael, Timothy, Susanna, two great grandchildren and two on the way. He is also survived by a sister, Brenda. He was preceded in death by his brother James Sanders.

A Celebration of Life service was held June 23, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Chisos Mountain Amphitheater in South Brewster County.

In lieu of flowers the family asked to donate to the Alpine Humane Society, Brewster County Sheriff's Office, Terlingua Fire and EMS, Alpine Masonic Lodge 766, or First Baptist Church in Alpine, Texas.

Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was entrusted with his services.
