Robin Elaine Roberts died Monday, March 6, 2023, while hiking a remote trail in Big Bend National Park in Texas with her husband, Marty.
Robin was born April 8, 1958, to Bryan J. and Joan E. (Weston) Roberts in Lapeer, MI. She is survived by her husband, Marty Streb, her son and daughter-in-law, Dylan and Elizabeth Streb, and granddaughters Cecilia and Alaina Streb. She is further survived by sisters, Lynn Roberts and Christie Blink, brother and sister-in law, Charles and Anita Roberts, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Robin was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Streb.
Robin grew up in Lapeer and graduated from Lapeer High School in 1976. She followed her sisters to the University of Michigan where she graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1981. After graduation, she and a friend spent a long summer bicycling around Europe on a trip she talked about for decades.
Her first job as a pharmacist was at a small hospital in Yale, Michigan. In 1982 she left to take a job at Butterworth Hospital (Spectrum Health) in Grand Rapids, where she met her future husband, Marty Streb. Robin and Marty married in 1988 and spent the remainder of their careers working at Spectrum Health. Robin retired in 2016.
In 1990 Robin gave birth to twin boys. Being a mom was the most rewarding experience of her life. The death of her son Brandon in 2012 was an especially difficult time for her. The arrival of two granddaughters in recent years brought her great joy.
Dogs and cats where special to Robin. She owned cats her entire adult life. She walked dogs with her neighbor most weekdays for 25+ years.
Throughout her life Robin volunteered at several organizations including Big Sisters, Ronald McDonald House, The Heartside Gallery, Feeding America, Lowell Arts, and Flat River Outreach Ministries. She was a member of Genesis United Methodist Church for many years. Recently she joined Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She went on mission trips to Guatemala, New Orleans, and Joplin. When Robin met a stranger, she would often break the ice and make small talk. She believed strongly that a kind word could brighten someone’s whole day.
Robin was an artist. For many years she created jewelry which she would sell at art fairs. She loved attending art fairs and getting together with fellow artists. She also liked to knit. She usually met every week with fellow knitters from her church.
Robin was an adventurer. She traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe (most recently Oktoberfest in Munich), all over the United States and parts of Canada. She loved to kayak, hike, bike, and recently took up fly fishing. She never missed a good party and would enthusiastically celebrate Halloween and Renaissance Festival in costume.
A memorial service for Robin will be held 11am, April 15, 2023 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4031 Ambrose Ave NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pastors John Ross Thompson and Jim Hodge will officiate. Memorial donations in Robin’s memory can be made to Aldersgate UMC or Flat River Outreach Ministries. Greetings will be from 10-11am prior to the service.
