Primitivo Ybarra, 81, passed away April 28, 2025, in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Edroud Jean officiating. Interment will take place at Cementerio De La Merced in Marfa, Texas. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Primitivo Vasquez Ybarra was born June 10, 1943, in San Juan, Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was born to Anastasia Vasquez Ybarra and Aniceto Ybarra. His mother passed away shortly after giving birth to him. He was raised by his Tia Maria and her husband Jose Contreras. They provided a loving home and raised him as their own son. Primitivo was referred to by his family as Tachito or Primo. He attended grade school in Marfa, TX and St. Edwards Catholic School in Carlsbad, NM. He was a graduate of Carlsbad High School. Primo relocated his family to Yuma, Arizona in 1970, where he began his career with the federal government as a civil servant as an electrician at the Marine Corp Air Station. He advanced in his career over 36 years and retired as a Project Manager at DHS, for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico. After retirement, he owned a pecan farm in Mesilla Valley, New Mexico and enjoyed harvesting his delicious pecans every year and always shared them with family and friends. Primo was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his birth mother, Anastasia Vasquez Ybarra and his birth father, Aniceto Ybarra; Maria Contreras “Mama Maria” and Jose Contreras “Papa Jose” and many Tios and Tias.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Rita Ybarra of Yuma, Arizona; son, Mario J. Ybarra of Yuma, Arizona; daughters: Cynthia M. Ybarra of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Monica P. King and husband Dennis of Peachtree City, Georgia; grandchildren: Carissa Salas, Joanna Edmondson, MJ Ybarra, Daniel King, Malach Ybarra; and great grandchildren: Adrianna Mendes, Bryce Edmondson, Shalom Salas, Zara Salas and Ezra Ybarra.
