Margarita Vega Chavira

May 6, 1979 — December 31, 2025

Margarita Vega, a beloved mother, friend, and cherished member of the Marfa community, passed away on December 31, 2025, in her hometown of Marfa, Texas. Born on May 6, 1979, Margarita was a spirited woman who embodied kindness and fierce determination in all aspects of her life.

Margarita was well-known as Marfa's favorite cashier, where her warm smile and engaging personality left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her path. She was not just a face behind the counter; she was a source of joy and a testament to the small-town spirit that makes Marfa so special. Those who encountered her found a caring soul, someone who would give you the clothes off her back if you needed them, proving time and again that her heart was as vast as her love for her community.

A proud mother, Margarita’s greatest accomplishments were her children: Michael Vega-Reyes, Cecilia Margarita Loretto, Ana Quinonez, Maria Celeste Vega, Angel Juan Carlos Vega, Jesus Omar Vega, and Gael Eduardo Chavira. She instilled in them the values of kindness, mindfulness, and resilience. Her unwavering spirit encouraged them to embrace life’s challenges with grace and determination. Margarita taught her children the importance of enjoying each day as it came, making lifelong memories filled with laughter and love.

Margarita had a vibrant personality and a love for the arts, particularly enjoying bright colors like orange and red. She found joy in the little things, from her fascination with elephants and monarch butterflies to her passion for knitting. Her talents and interests added a splash of brightness to the world around her, much like her radiant spirit did.

In addition to her family, Margarita's absence will be profoundly felt by countless friends and community members who were touched by her generosity and warmth. She was indeed a force to be reckoned with, a woman who lived life fully and inspired everyone around her to do the same.

Margarita is preceded in death by her brother, Fernando Vega Ruiz, whose memory will forever be held dear by her family.
