Lilia Vasquez Prieto, a devoted homemaker and cherished caregiver, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Marfa, Texas. Born on March 7, 1931, in Mexico, Lilia’s life was marked by a deep commitment to nurturing those around her and a sincere devotion to her family and community.
Throughout her years, Lilia embraced her role as a homemaker with a loving heart, dedicating much of her life to creating a warm and welcoming home. She extended her care beyond her household by serving as a child caregiver in her home for many years, touching the lives of numerous children with her kindness and gentle spirit. Those who knew her fondly remember her passion for making blankets, an act that symbolized her ongoing desire to provide comfort and warmth to others. Her love for cooking and baking pastries enriched many gatherings and brought joy to her family, as did her unfailing enthusiasm for spending quality time with her loved ones.
Lilia was recognized not only as a loving mother and grandmother but also as a steadfast friend to many. Her generous spirit and nurturing nature left an indelible impression on all whose lives she touched, embodying the virtues of compassion and care.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesus Prieto, whom she married on January 18, 1964, in Marfa, Texas. She also joins her parents, Eusebio and Cesaria Vasquez, and siblings Amanda Vasquez, Antonia Vasquez, Higina Vasquez, and Emilio Vasquez in eternal rest.
Lilia is survived by her devoted daughter, Rosa Melendez; cherished grandchildren Damian Hernandez, Isaiah Ramos, Alexia Ramos, Aiden Ramos, and Brianna Ramos; as well as many nieces and nephews who carry forward her legacy of kindness and family values.
The community will have the opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate Lilia’s life on May 19, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located at 211 W San Antonio St, Marfa, TX. The visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:00 a.m. A Mass in remembrance of Lilia’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., culminating with her interment at Cementerio de la Merced.
Lilia Vasquez Prieto’s legacy is one of steadfast love, care, and devotion. She leaves behind a family enriched by her presence. Her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and strength to all who were fortunate to know her. May she rest in peace.
