George Drewry

July 10, 1924 — July 18, 2018

George Drewry of Alpine, Texas went to meet his Heavenly Father on July 18, 2018, at the age of 94. He was born in Witts Springs, Arkansas on July 10, 1924 to Ira and Mae Drewry.

George served in the 717th tank battalion for the United States Army driving tanks from 1942 to 1945. He met Betty, his wife of 72 years, in Levelland, Texas in 1945. They were married on March 12, 1946. George worked for Mobile Oil as a driller for 14 years. Tiring of moving from oil field to oil field and wanting to give their two boys a stable home, they settled down in Alpine, Texas. They opened the White's Auto store in 1959. Over the years, it was also known as Otasco and later Coast to Coast Home and Auto.

George enjoyed his hobbies of restoring antique cars and traveling with Betty in their motorhome. They traveled all across the country to attend family reunions, church camp meetings and several Army 717th tank battalion reunions. George's favorite thing to do was to go to church and his unwavering faith was influential for many to follow Christ.

Greeting him at the Pearly Gates was his son Dann Drewry, brothers Donald Joe and Dale Drewry, sister Bonnie Massey, and his parents. He is survived by his wife Betty Jane, son Ronnie and his wife Libbie, daughter-in-law Susan and her husband Buddy Warnke, brothers Faye and Bill Drewry, sister June Waldon and many nieces and nephews.

"PawPaw" was blessed with 3 grandchildren; Brandon Drewry of Alpine, Texas, Ryan Drewry and his wife Julia of El Paso, Texas and 9 great grandchildren; Addison, Ryder, Hattan, Everson, Whitlee, "baby" George, Kade, Cole, and Leyah.

George and Betty have been active members of the First Assembly of God Church for 58 years where George served as a Board Member and was a Deacon in the church.
