Frank Frederick Covington

November 3, 1944 — February 23, 2026

Alpine, Texas

Frank Covington, 81 years old, of Alpine, Texas, passed away on February 23rd in Alpine. On that day, Frank went home to be with the Lord, whom he faithfully loved and served throughout his life.

Frank was born on November 3, 1944 in Amarillo, Texas, to Helen and Frank Faherty. His last name changed to Covington when he was adopted by his stepfather Bob Covington. Frank grew up in Amarillo and later attended Wayland Baptist University where he graduated with a degree in religious studies. Frank served in youth ministries at Cliffside Baptist Church in Amarillo; Rosedale Baptist Church and Riverbend Church (where he was a founding member,) both of Austin, Texas; and in the ecumenical group E.A.S.Y. in Alpine. Throughout his life, Frank was known for his strong work ethic, steady character, and unwavering faith.

In his early life, Frank enjoyed many water sports, including swimming, scuba diving, underwater videography and sailing. He had a dream of living on a sailboat with his family until life took a turn and brought him to the high desert of West Texas.

Frank discovered a passion for bicycling in the Davis Mountains and Big Bend area and could often be found enjoying long rides, embracing both the challenge and the freedom of the open road. He also had a well-known affinity for Mercedes diesel engines, appreciating their craftsmanship and reliability. A friend to all, Frank had a reputation for his willingness to help others whenever and however he could.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lana Covington; his daughter, Tallie Altgelt (Tate); his grandson, TJ Raby (Lyndsey); his granddaughter, Codie Lentz (Houston); four sisters; four great-grandchildren; and countless friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Candace Covington.

Frank will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his generous heart, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.
