Dorathy Williams, 91, of Terlingua, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1933, in Owosso, Michigan, to Allen and Evelyn Oates.
Dorathy attended school in Steele, Missouri, where she was a First Team All-State basketball player. After school, she went on to work as a flight attendant and ticket agent for United Airlines. She later moved to Terlingua, Texas, where she became an active and beloved member of the community.
Dorathy was a devoted member of CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International), serving as a Director from 2003 to 2011 and working with the Terlingua Trails “Upcomings” during that same time. She was inducted into the Hall of Flame in 2001 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. She also worked at the Terlingua Mercantile for more than 16 years, where she was well-known and loved by all.
A passionate community supporter, Dorathy dedicated much of her time to fundraising for Terlingua High School and other local causes.
Dorathy is survived by her husband, Tom Williams of Terlingua, and her daughter, Denise Saunders of Terlingua. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Evelyn Oates.
The family deeply appreciates all the kind words, thoughts, and gestures shared on behalf of Dorathy.
