Richard "Dick" Hartnett, 80, a lifelong resident of Fort Davis, beloved husband and best friend of Minnie Hartnett for 56 years, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2018, in El Paso, TX, surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved.
Dick was born on March 21, 1937 in Fort Davis, Texas to Edward "Lalo" Hartnett, and Julia (Hernandez) Hartnett. He later married Herminia "Minnie" (Acosta) Hartnett on July 30, 1960. The two enjoyed 56 plus years together.
Praying of the Most Holy Rosary prayed by Father Beto Lopez on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mass of Christian Burial followed Rosary with Mass being Celebrated by Father Beto. Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Davis.
Those honoring Dick with one final act of love by serving as pallbearers were: Jose Esquivel, John Serna, Michael Hartnett, Larry Hartnett, Knobby Sanchez, and Gabriel Acosta.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Fort Davis, where he worked for West Texas Utilities as an electrical lineman. Dick never knew a stranger. He was a great cook; his specialty dishes included BBQ chicken and brisket.
Dick enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, dancing and listening to the sounds of Glenn Miller, and telling stories. His project of many years was the restoration of an old adobe house he and Minnie purchased in 1995. It was once owned by his grandparents and held many great memories from his childhood. Dick was also a member of The Knights of Columbus and was a 3rd Degree Knight.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Barbara Hartnett; one sister Ronnie Patillo; and two brothers Dan Hartnett and Fred Hartnett.
Those left to cherish and honor the wonderful fun-loving memory of Dick are: his wife of 56 plus years Herminia "Minnie" Hartnett of Fort Davis; three daughters Lorraine Hartnett of El Paso, Texas, Margaret Hartnett and husband John Serna of El Paso, Texas, and Sarah Louise Hartnett and husband Jose Esquivel of Houston, Texas. One grandchild Michael Hartnett and wife Maria Hartnett of El Paso, Texas; two great grandchildren Brooke Hartnett of El Paso, Texas, and Barbara Hartnett of El Paso, Texas. Two very special friends Larry and Leticia Hartnett of Fort Davis, Texas, and many beloved Hartnett and Acosta family members, as well as many great friends.
The Hartnett family thanks God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time spent with him.
