She was born in Alpine, Texas on December 1, 1957, and peacefully departed from this world on November 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Dena had a vibrant spirit, a contagious smile, and a heart full of love.

Born and raised in Alpine, Dena was deeply invested in her family. Dena's genuine kindness, unwavering resilience, and enduring love for her family endeared her to all who knew her, especially her fur baby, Cody. Her hobbies included sewing, word search puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Though Dena's formal education concluded in high school, her passion for baking led her to embark on a fulfilling career as a baker. Her culinary creations became legendary in the community, offering sweet delights that brought joy to countless celebrations and special occasions. Dena's skill and dedication in the food industry were truly unmatched, and her delectable treats will be remembered for generations to come.

She is preceded in death by her parents Salvador and Elena Hernandez and her brother George Hernandez.

Dena will be lovingly remembered by her devoted spouse Daniel Portillo Jr., her son Dan Portillo III, and her daughters; Kristy, and Liana Portillo, her grandchildren; Cassandra Campos, Gabriel Campos, Dereck Campos, Kai Portillo, Xavier Portillo, Kyra Portillo, great grandchildren; Melanie Guevara, Bentley Serrano, Skye Guevara, and Zaylee Campos, and her siblings; Bridget Oliphant, Yolanda Hernandez, Danny Hernandez, John Hernandez, Salvador Hernandez Jr., Ruth Portillo, Lalo Hernandez, Cynthia Estrada, Lanci Tucker, and Debbie Newberry. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her impact on their lives cannot be overstated. Her unwavering love, cheerful presence, and unwavering support will forever be engraved in their hearts.

As we come together in mourning, let us also celebrate the beautiful memories we have of Dena's life. May we find solace and comfort in the shared love and support we offer one another during this difficult time. Dena Hernandez Portillo's legacy will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, forever watching over her cherished family and the community she held dear.

Funeral services will be December 7th, 2023 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas.
