Dan "Chito" Portillo Jr.

Dan Portillo Jr., a beloved member of the Alpine, Texas community, passed on January 10, 2024. Born on January 23, 1949, in Alpine, he was the son of Daniel V. Portillo and Eulalia Ramos Portillo. Dan was a dedicated individual who worked tirelessly as part of the city maintenance team and was also skilled in carpentry.

Dan was a doting husband to his lovely wife, Dena Hernandez Portillo and his love for his family knew no bounds. Dan cherished every moment spent with them and found immense joy in spoiling his grandchildren. Nothing brought him more happiness than seeing the smiles on their faces. Beyond his dedication to work and family, Dan loved listening to music. He could often be found listening to his favorite tunes. Music provided solace in both good times and bad.

Dan is survived by his daughters, Kristy and Liana Portillo, and his son, Dan Portillo III. Their love for their father will endure forever, carrying memories of his kindness and wisdom in their hearts.

The light of Dan's life also shone brightly through his grandchildren: Cassandra Campos, Gabriel Campos Jr., Dereck Campos, Kai Portillo, Xavier Portillo, Kyra Portillo. Their laughter and energy filled him with boundless love and pride. Furthermore, he leaves behind a legacy through his great-grandchildren: Melanie Guevara, Bentley Serrano, Skye Guevara, Zaylee Campos.

Dan is survived by his sisters, Margie Ramirez of Fort Stockton, Texas, Adelina Portillo of Odessa, Texas, Lorena Rosales of San Antonio, Texas, and Anna Chavez and Carla Dominguez, both of Alpine, Texas. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ermelinda Amy Portillo and reunited eternally with his beloved wife Dena.
