Benny was born in Fort Davis, Texas to Ben and Lucia Benavidez on November 19, 1960. He went to school in Marfa, Texas graduating in 1979. He then went on to work in oil and gas exploration and travel the country. During this time he met his beloved wife Alicia, and they married on July 9, 1983.
